The Master Cleanse and Weight Loss
Ask any of the stars that use the Master Cleanse to get ready for special events or movies if
the Master Cleanse is a good weight loss tool and they will sing its praises in this regard.
Singer and actress Beyonce reportedly lost 20 pounds in 10 days for her role in the movie
“Dreamgirls” using this popular Detox program.  Stars such as this use the Master Cleanse
for weight loss all the time, but is it actually a good weight loss diet?

The Master Cleanse was originally invented by Stanley Burroughs as a full body cleansing
diet.  Because of the fasting involved and the fact that you’re literally flushing toxins from your
body, you are bound to lose a little bit of weight.  Most of this is water weight and weight that
you will gain back though, not necessarily fat.  But some can argue that since you’re fasting,
you are burning more calories than you’re taking in, so some of the weight loss experienced
may actually be fat loss.

If you’re trying to lose weight, is this a good diet to try?  In the short term, the diet works well.
If you’re trying to lose weight and keep it off though, it’s not really the best weight loss diet to
choose.  Because its ultimate purpose is to detoxify and cleanse the body, weight loss is
just a pleasant side effect.  If you’re a very disciplined and focused person, you may be able
to use Master Cleanse to lose weight but it’s up to you to keep it off afterwards.

As previously mentioned, a lot of the weight that you lose on the Master Cleanse is believed
to be fluid so you may gain it back right after completing the Detox.  It has shown that people
who go on this diet do lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time but most also report a
few (if not more) pounds coming back after the diet is discontinued.  Most of the time, you do
still end up lighter than when you began when all is said and done so it’s a good way to
jump start a weight loss plan or if you don’t need to lose that much weight.  Also as
previously mentioned, it’s not impossible to keep all of the weight that you lost on the
cleanse off, but you will have to work at it long after the diet is over to keep it off.  It’s also
extremely important that if you are using the diet to lose weight that you complete the full 10
day cycle of the Detox process.

If you’re looking for a quick-fix diet that allows you to lose weight quickly, the Master Cleanse
could work for you.  It’s not advised to use this as a weight loss plan alone because of the
possible side effects like headaches, frequent bowel movements and vomiting.  Remember
that it’s not really about weight loss, but rather to cleanse your body from toxins and give you
renewed energy.  That alone is a good reason to do the diet, and the weight loss as a side
effect is just an added bonus.
