Is the Master Cleanse Detox Diet Safe?
Although Detox diets reportedly promote renewed health, energy and overall well-being, they are
sort of taboo in today’s mainstream medicine. This makes some people question why this is-
are they safe? They’re utilized around the world on a regular basis, so there’s a lot of evidence
that they are.
As long as you are already in fairly good health and don’t have any major medical issues, Detox
diets are perfectly safe. It can be dangerous to participate in a fasting or liquid diet for too long of
a time, but as long as you don’t overdo it and choose a gentle one, you will be fine.
As you should before starting any diet regimen, it’s a good idea to check with a doctor before
starting a Detox diet, especially if you have any health problems that might be of concern. Make
sure that you drink a lot of water to keep your body hydrated, which is always advised with any
Detox plan. If you do experience any unexpected side effects while on a Detox diet, you should
seek the help of a doctor immediately.
Skeptics of Detox diets will warn you that if your body doesn’t get sufficient amounts of nutrients
and vitamins for too many days then you will experience negative health effects. The Master
Cleanse and others like it can cause people to experience rapid weight loss. Cathy Wong talks
about how this can lead to gallstones in her article entitled “The Master Cleanse.” This is why it’
s so important to follow the diet guidelines strictly to ensure that you’re being safe and closely
monitor your reactions. If you experience any unexpected or unexplained symptoms, your diet
needs to come to a halt immediately.
Many celebrities have recently begun singing praises to Detox diets and their health benefits.
Famous beauties like Beyonce and Gwyneth Paltrow have admitted that they use Detox diets to
get in top physical shape and rave about how great they feel afterwards. Detox diets are also
becoming popular topics in magazines and newspapers, which usually advise not to go on them
because they can be unsafe in some cases. There is very little evidence to support this theory
though, and much more evidence to the contrary that they are perfectly healthy for those that are
in fair health already.
If you do have a pre-existing health condition, you probably want to stay away from Detox diets,
because in these cases there a possibility they could be harmful to you. If you have cancer,
diabetes or other serious health conditions, check with your doctor prior to selecting a Detox diet
or to determine if it’s even safe for you at all. Believe it or not, in some cases a Detox diet can
actually benefit people that suffer from some health problems, but they should always be closely
monitored by a physician or medical professional.
If you’re curious to know what doctors have said in the past in regards to the potentially negative
impact of Detox diets, you can read about them in the article “Deconstructing ‘Detox’ Diets” by
Alicia Potter. One doctor claims that if you have a healthy liver, it does its job just fine and doesn’t
need the assistance of a Detox diet to release toxins from the body. In some cases it’s best to
just try to avoid exposure to toxins altogether. When too many toxins invade your system though,
your liver doesn’t perform optimally anymore so this is when a Detox diet would actually be
helpful. You can’t avoid toxins completely as they’re everywhere- from food to water and even in
the air that we breathe.
To ensure that your Detox diet is safe, you’ll just want to closely monitor your reactions and to
discontinue the diet if you experience anything that is unusual for that particular diet. Most of the
Detox diets out there are completely safe and work wonders for your health and overall well-
being.
